Director of Cultural Affairs Apollo Piano Trio in Concert The Apollo Trio will perform Sunday, November 11 at 3 PM with a reception and discussion with the artists after the concert. The program includes the dramatic but rarely-heard Piano Trio, Op. 1, of contemporary Polish composer Andrzej Panufnik, as well as the beloved F Minor Trio of Dvorak and Haydn’s Trio in B-flat. Already well known as soloists and chamber players throughout the United States and Europe, violinist Curtis Macomber, cellist Michael Kannen, and pianist Marija Stroke play together as the Apollo Trio. Three passionate and intelligent musicians, the Apollo Trio members have been critically acclaimed for "vitality and poetic fire," "depth of feeling and technical excellence" and "music making of stature and substance" by Strad Magazine, Fanfare and London’s Daily Telegraph. Former first violinist of the New World String Quartet and a renowned champion of new music, Mr. Macomber has made over twenty recordings, including two acclaimed discs of contemporary solo violin music. A member of the new music ensemble Speculum Musicae, Mr. Macomber is on the faculties of the Julliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. Michael Kannen, formerly the cellist of the Naumburg Award winning Brentano String Quartet, of which he was a founding member, has performed in major concert halls throughout the world — including London’s Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Sydney Opera House in Australia, Theatre de Chatelet in Paris, and frequently in New York at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and others. Mr. Kannen is Director of Chamber Music at the Peabody Institute. All events take place at the Foundation House, unless otherwise noted. Programs subject to change. Click here for directions. Kosciuszko Foundation programs are supported by the Mary F. Koons Charitable Trust, the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), the Tadeusz Solowij Literary Fund, and the KF Cultural Fund.
