Polish Virtuoso Krystian Tkaczewski

Polish virtuoso Krystian Tkaczewski is the featured soloist in Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor on Sunday, May 20 at 3 PM at the Kosciuszko Foundation. He will be accompanied by the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Adrian Sylveen. The program also features Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins (with soloists Brunilda Myftaraj and Adrian Sylveen), and Wolf-Ferrari’s lyrical Serenade for Strings. This is the final concert of the 2006-2007 Chamber Music Series; it will be broadcast on WQXR 96.3 FM on Sunday, May 27 at 6 PM.The radio broadcast is made possible by generous support from Cynthia and Tom Rosicki, of Rosicki, Rosicki, & Assoc., Attorneys at Law.

Tickets are $25 ($20 for KF members) and include a reception with the artists. As space is limited, reservations are strongly recommended, and can be made by calling the Foundation Office at 2112.734.2130.

Krystian Tkaczewski, born in 1980 in Tarnów, Poland, started his musical education at the Paderewski Music School there and continued at the Chopin Academy in Warsaw. Since 2005 Krystian has been a graduate student of Oxana Yablonskaya at the University of Hartford Hartt School of Music as a Hartt Talent Award Holder. He has taken part in many competitions and festivals around the world and has concertized on three continents.

The Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra is a professional orchestra from the Greater Hartford/New Britain area dedicated to presenting both traditional and contemporary classical chamber works. The orchestra was established in 1997 under the auspices of the Polish American Foundation. Special attention is given to music from Eastern Europe.

Violinist, conductor, chamber musician and educator, Andrian Sylveen Mackiewicz is currently an artistic director of the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, Connecticut Lyric Opera, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the New Britain Chorale.
A graduate of the Paderewski Music Academy in Poznańn, Poland and the Yale University School of Music in New Haven, USA, he began his musical education at the age of five. In 1989 he continued his studies at the Music Academy in Poznan, Poland, where he was awarded several prestigious government scholarships and awards including “Primus Inter Pares” Award given by the President of the Republic of Poland, and Ministry of Education scholarship. From 1992 to 1996 Mr. Mackiewicz continued his studies at Yale University, where he earned Master of Music and Artist Diploma degrees. In 1996 He received an Assistantship at the University of Connecticut where he continued his education in areas of both orchestral and choral conducting. Mr. Mackiewicz founded the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra in 1997. During the last nine years the orchestra expanded to more than ten concert programs and more than 25 performances a season. The group is a frequent guest at the Kosciuszko Foundation’s Chamber Music Series, and performed at the prestigious Belding Theater at the Bushnell Center for the Performing arts in Hartford, Connecticut. Very active as chamber musician and soloist, Mr. Mackiewicz frequently performs and collaborates in concerts and recitals and lectures on various musical topics at several regional colleges. His repertoire includes, among many other works, a large number of works by twentieth century Polish composers. In 2004, Mr. Mackiewicz was granted the "Extraordinary Abilities in the Arts" permanent US residence, as one of a small percentage of those who have risen to the top in their field of endeavor.
