Helena
The Polish Theatre Institute in the USA, Inc. is presenting a tribute to the
great Polish American actress of the 19th century Helena Modrzejewska
/ Modrzeska on Saturday,
March 20, 2004 at the Kosciuszko Foundation - directions
Helena, a one-woman play by Kazimierz Braun, will be performed in
Polish at 3 PM by Janina Katelbach (Nina Polan) in the role of Modrzejewska.
On the same day at 7 PM, Helena, The Emigrant Queen (also
by Kazimierz Braun) in English, will be performed by Nina Polan in the role
of the elder Modrzejeska, with Hanna Bondarewska, as the young Helena and George
McGrath as the "men
in Helena's life". Both
plays are directed by Joseph S. Kutrzeba with staging, lighting design and stage
management by Andrzej Walczak and costume design by Renata Podolec. Since
