Polish Masters Featured in Contrasts Concert!

Chamber Music Series

The Contrasts Quartet will highlight music of three Polish composers in their March 14 concert at the Kosciuszko Foundation; works of Penderecki, Lutoslawski, and Rozitski will be paired with Trio in Red by New York composer Aaron Jay Kernis; and the popular Trio in E Minor , "Dumky," by Dvorak. The concert begins at 3 pm, and is followed by a reception for audience and artists. Tickets are $25 ($20 for KF members) and can be reserved with a credit card by calling the Office at (212) 734-2130. The concert will be broadcast Sunday, March 21 at 6 PM on WQXR 96.3 FM and over www.wqxr.com.

Praised for their exhilarating performances of old and new repertoire, the Contrasts Quartet is a group of four extraordinary women virtuosi whose instruments include clarinet, violin, cello and piano. The ensemble performs a mix of duos, trios and quartets, presenting innovative and entertaining programming designed to appeal to a broad range of audiences. With a strong commitment to music of living composers, they have recorded several CD's on the Phoenix and Arabesque labels. The Quartet has been invited to perform in Europe and across the United States, has participated in many residencies, and has been honored with numerous awards and grants.

Now in its thirteenth season, the Kosciuszko Foundation's Chamber Music Series is acknowledged as one of the most distinguished in New York. Concerts take place in an ideal acoustical setting, at the Foundation's elegant townhouse, and are recorded for broadcast over WQXR-FM.
