Director of Cultural Affairs Images and Words—Six Decades PaulaBarr Chelsea will present "Images and Words-Six Decades”, a solo show featuring the work of Kosciuszko Foundation Trustee Maria Hagadus.The artist will be present at the opening reception which takes place on Thursday, February 21 between 6 and 8 pm. PaulaBarr Chelsea is locaed at: 526 West 26th Street 9G New York, NY 1000. Maria Hagadus was born in Lodz, Poland, before World War II, and has been in the United States since 1945. She studied at The Fleisher Art School in Philadelphia, and later worked as both student and teacher with New York artists B. Shirley Carter and Anthony Toney. As founder of Maria Hagadus Studio Gallery in Bedford Hills, NY, she helped introduce Polish artists, among them Rafal Olbinski, Jan Pamula, and Janusz Kapusta. She has exhibited in group and solo shows in Poland, Canada, and the United States, including The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Donnell Library, and The Kosciuszko Foundation. Her paintings are found in the permanent collection of Fordham University as well as in private collections. Among other artistic interests, she has performed and done set design with The Byrd Hoffman Foundation under Robert Wilson’s direction, and has translated poetry for Nobel Laureate, Czeslaw Milosz All events take place at the Foundation House, unless otherwise noted.
