Prize Winning Ensemble "Antares"
Sunday, February 25

The Antares clarinet quartet will make its Kosciuszko Foundation debut on Sunday, February 25, at 3 PM (15 East 65th Street / Fifth-Madison Avenues). The program features the "Dance Preludes" of Polish composer Witold Lutoslawski, and includes works of Hindemith, Rabl, and contemporary American composer John Mackey. Tickets are $30 / 25, including a reception with the artists after the concert, and can be reserved by calling the Foundation Office at (212) 734-2130.

First Prize winner in the 2002 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, the San Francisco based ensemble Antares is comprised of four virtuoso instrumentalists: violin, cello, piano and clarinet, as well as its various trio and duo permutations. Its programs span the traditional eras of classical music from the 18th century through the music of today.

With two ASCAP/CMA Awards for Adventuresome Programming to its credit (2004 & 1999), ANTARES recently appeared in New York's River to River Festival. It has also been featured at Symphony Space in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Kennedy Center, Chamber Music Cincinnati, Merkin Concert Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and Brooklyn Friends of Chamber Music in New York City, the Krannert Center at the University of Illinois, the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild (NC) and Panama's Asociacion Nacional de Conciertos.

Residencies include the Aspen School of Music, Eastman School of Music, Columbia University, Wesleyan University, and the Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa, In August 2005, the ensemble's distinctive sound was featured for the third time on a nationwide broadcast of Minnesota Public Radio's ever-popular series Saint Paul Sunday. Popular at festivals as well, ANTARES was twice Ensemble-in-Residence at the Festival Eleazar de Carvalho in Fortaleza, Brasil and has performed at the Tuckamore Festival in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Antares has commissioned and/or premiered and recorded a substantial number of works by highly regarded composers including Ned Rorem's The End of Summer on the Newport Classics label, Fred Lerdahl's Marches, which was released in spring 2006 by Bridge Records.

All events take place at the Foundation House, unless otherwise noted. Programs subject to change. Click here for directions.

Kosciuszko Foundation programs are supported by the Mary F. Koons Charitable Trust, the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), the Tadeusz Solowij Literary Fund, and the KF Cultural Fund.
