Director of Cultural Affairs Slavic Arts Ensemble The Slavic Arts Ensemble, founded by Mieczyslaw Gubernat in 1977, will present the first of its 30th Anniversary Concerts on Tuesday, December 11, at 7:30pm. The all-Polish program, ranging from the Baroque (Mielczewski) to contemporary (Piotr Lachert) honors distinguished Polish composer Walter Legawiec, who will have four compositions performed that evening. Tickets are $10, including a reception with the artists after the concert, and can be reserved by calling the Foundation Office. Members of the Slavic Arts Ensemble are: Krzysztof Kuznik and Mieczyslaw Gubernat, violins; Maurycy Banaszek , viola; Renata Bedkowska , cello; and Pawel Knapik, bass. Founded by Mieczyslaw Gubernat in 1977, the mission of the Ensemble has been to present Polish chamber music and to promote the careers of outstanding young musicians - 30 years later we remain faithful to that goal. The success of the initial "Birthday Concerts Series" at the Kosciuszko Foundation, which featured the music of Polish composers, prompted the Ensemble to expand its repertoire to encompass all musical eras and styles, including music written expressly for the Slavic Arts Ensemble by contemporary composers. The New York Times praised the Ensemble for giving "superlative performances of chamber music". The members of the Ensemble bring an enormous range of collective experience and talent in the classic European style of elegance and refinement. All graduates of Polish, European and American graduate schools of music and are also the individual winners of prestigious international competitions. They perform regularly in such outstanding New York venues as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and others. Renowned artists that have performed with the Ensemble include among others: Teresa Kubiak, Christina Petrowska, Hanna Lachert, Jan Jozef Wnek, Jacek Gebczynski, Krzysztof Witek, Mariusz Jagoda, Mateusz Wolski, Rafal Jezierski. Program: All events take place at the Foundation House, unless otherwise noted. Programs subject to change. Click here for directions. Kosciuszko Foundation programs are supported by the Mary F. Koons Charitable Trust, the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), the Tadeusz Solowij Literary Fund, and the KF Cultural Fund.
