Traditional Polish Folk Dancing
For Children 6-12 Years. Led by Members of The Polish American Folk Dance Company

On Saturday, April 12 at 3:00 PM, children aged 6-12 years are invited to put on their dancing shoes, don beautifully ornate Polish folk costumes, and join in the Polonaise, Krakowiak and Polka. The fun-filled workshop by members of the Polish American Folk Dance Company will teach the basics of these and other traditional Polish folk dances. Attendance is limited, so it’s best to phone ahead. Tickets are $15 ($10 for KF members).

For 70 years, The Polish American Folk Dance Company (PAFDC) of Brooklyn, NY has presented authentic and energetic performances to the Polish and American communities. Their goal is to preserve and perpetuate the spirited songs and dances of Poland in the melting-pot of America. Today, PAFDC has a repertoire of 23 folk dance suites from different regions of Poland, over 600 individual costumes, a folk band and a performing children’s group. The Kosciuszko Foundation workshop will bring the traditions of Poland to a younger generation, enabling the participating children to learn the dances (and try on the costumes, too).

This event, presented by the Kosciuszko Foundation in conjunction with the Polish American Teachers Association, is the last in a special series of workshops and performances for children celebrating Polish culture, history and traditions. Other presentations included the play “The Seeds of Freedom”, the story of Polish General Tadeusz Kosciuszko (who aided the cause of the American Revolution); a “Traditional Polish Christmas”; and a Polish folklore, fables and storytelling competition.

This series of children’s programs has been made possible in part through the generosity and support of the Personal Advisors of Ameriprise Financial and the Association of the Sons of Poland.

Founded in 1925, the Kosciuszko Foundation is dedicated to promoting educational and cultural exchanges and relations between the United States and Poland, and to increasing American understanding of Polish culture and history. It is a national not-for-profit, nonpartisan and nonsectarian organization.

All events take place at the Foundation House, unless otherwise noted. Programs subject to change. Click here for directions.

Kosciuszko Foundation programs are supported by the Mary F. Koons Charitable Trust, the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), the Tadeusz Solowij Literary Fund, and the KF Cultural Fund.
