Azure Ensemble
Sunday, April 17 at 3 PM, $25/$20 for members
Chamber Music Series
The Azure Ensemble, one of the most innovative ensembles in New York City, will perform Sunday, April 17, at 3 PM in the highly acclaimed Chamber Music Series of the Kosciuszko Foundation.

Their program includes the New York premiere of "Un Grand Sommeil Noir ..." for soprano, flute and harp, by Marta Ptaszynska, one of Poland's leading composers. The lush "Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp, " of Claude Debussy, is another highlight of the concert. Other composers included are Marilyn Bliss, Maurice Durufle, and Virginia-based composer Judith Shatin, featured in a recent BAM Next Wave Festival.

The concert will be recorded for broadcast on WQXR-FM 96.3 on Sunday, April 24; that broadcast is made possible by Cynthia and Thomas Rosicki, of Rosicki, Rosicki, and Associates, PC, Attorneys at Law.

Tickets are $25 ($20 for KF members) and can be reserved by calling the Foundation Office at 212.734.2130.

Members of the Azure Ensemble for this concert are Susan Glaser, Flute and Artistic Director; Karen Ritscher, Viola and Artistic Director; June Han, Harp; Jeffrey Cohen, Piano; and Gayla Blaisdell, Soprano.

The Azure Ensemble is one of New York City's most exciting new chamber music groups. Varied and notable repertoire is a hallmark of the ensemble, which draws its members from the finest musicians in New York City; a diverse instrumentation allows the performance of both traditional and new repertoire that may not always fit neatly into standardized categories.

Original programming is a hallmark of The Azure Ensemble; the group has commissioned and premiered numerous works by important contemporary composers, including Yuriko Kojima, Pablo Ortiz, Anne LeBaron, Alan Shockley, Alice Shields, Yoon Hee Hwang, Amanda Harberg, Jeeyoung Kim, Marilyn Bliss, and Stella Sung.
Members of The Azure Ensemble have achieved notable reviews and credentials, including performances in Merkin Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall in London, Alice Tully Hall, the John Field Room of Irelands National Concert Hall, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago. Radio and television appearances include WNYC, WQXR, KNAU, and Britains BBC. Members of The Azure Ensemble have performed at the Aspen Music Festival and the Norfolk Contemporary Music Festival. They have produced critically acclaimed CDs on the Koch International Classics labels.

All events take place at the Foundation House, unless otherwise noted. Programs subject to change. Click here for directions.

Kosciuszko Foundation programs are supported by the Mary F. Koons Charitable Trust, the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), the Tadeusz Solowij Literary Fund, and the KF Cultural Fund.
